To keep virus from getting on your computer at a minimum do not download files you don't know where they are coming from. Do not open email you don't know where they are coming from. Scan your computer yourself, at least once a month. If possible, scan in safemode.

When you install an online app, read the installation instructions and make sure to un-check any item you do not want to install on your computer, such as browser toolbars. I hate those browser toolbars; sometime they install them anyway. I have seen customers with up to 10 toolbars...
